Can I get an Amen to that brother? Winter is such a maligned season. Certainly here in Prince Edward Island, it's not even marketed by the provincial Tourism department. It's just considered a dead zone even though the most successful annual festival held on the Island is the Jack Frost Children's Festival held in Charlottetown and run by Tourism Charlottetown. Close to ten thousand people, almost half from off-Island come for a weekend of ice sculpting, skating, trick ski/snowboard demonstrations, children's performers and fireworks. Last year and again this year, they asked the South Shore Tourism Group to create and run a GPS Adventure Quest based on the them of the festival. This year we're creating a Knight's Quest. Because the SSTG has become recognized as the leaders in GPS tourism in the Maritimes, Tourism Charlottetown hired us to create the activity for them.

Our company, Experience PEI has been moderately successful in providing winter experiences and this year, we are getting several requests a week from local residents looking to do something rather than remain housebound. Our ice fishing and snowshoeing experiences are proving quite popular.

We've made sure the Visitor Information Centre at the Confederation Bridge knows we have lots of things for people to do who happen to find their way onto the Island in between the snow storms.

Given that PEI isn't seen or marketed as a winter destination, we decided to take the initiative by identifying what unique activities we can create and offer.....and just do it!
