Hotel Association of Canada Advancing Sustainability

by Nancy Arsenault on April 6, 2009

It is more than just a topic of interest, sustainability is a corporate responsibility we all must reflect on to determine how we may contribute.  The Hotel Association of Canada is doing just that, they have joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Partnership and as the leading member organization for hoteliers in Canada this can only lead to positive outcomes.  Check out the recent announcement.  Moving beyond the triple bottom line definition of sustainability that has been so popular and remains relevant, this global partnership group is working from a foundation of  37 criteria and four pillars of sustainable tourism

  • effective sustainability planning;
  • maximizing social and economic benefits to the local community;
  • reduction of negative impacts to cultural heritage; and
  • reduction of negative impacts to environmental heritage.

Cheers!
